How to Choose a Trisuit: Beginner vs Intermediate vs Advanced
Updated September 2026. Availability varies by size and model, so check the linked products and collection for current stock.
The easiest way to choose a trisuit is not to start with product names. Start with your experience level, race distance and how much race-specific performance you actually need.
Choose your triathlon level
| Level | Best for | 2XU family |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner | First triathlon, sprint events, value-focused racing | Core |
| Intermediate | Regular racing, sprint to Olympic, more aero performance | Aero / Aero Hex |
| Advanced | Long-course, 70.3 and Ironman-focused athletes | Light Speed React |
Beginner: 2XU Core
Core is the most straightforward entry into a purpose-built triathlon suit. It is best for athletes who want one suit for swim, bike and run without paying for the most advanced aerodynamic fabrics and long-course features.

Intermediate: 2XU Aero and Aero Hex
Aero models add a stronger performance focus for athletes who race more often and want improved aerodynamics, ventilation and muscle support. They make most sense for regular sprint and Olympic-distance racing, and for athletes who want to step up from an entry-level suit.
Advanced: Light Speed React
Light Speed React sits at the performance end of 2XU's trisuit range and is designed around long-course racing, aerodynamics and fatigue management. Xciter does not currently carry this range in depth, so treat it as the next step when you are ready for a more specialised long-course suit.
Sleeveless or sleeved?
Sleeveless suits feel simpler and cooler and are popular with first-time and short-course athletes. Sleeved suits can offer more aerodynamic coverage on the bike and are common in longer-course racing.
How should a trisuit fit?
A trisuit should fit close to the body without restricting movement or cutting in under the arms or around the leg openings. 2XU notes that the garment may loosen slightly when wet, so a secure race fit when dry is important.
What should you wear under a trisuit?
Most athletes wear the trisuit directly against the skin. The built-in tri chamois is designed to provide enough support on the bike while remaining thin enough to swim and run comfortably.
